Acetic acid, glacial contains a very low amount of water (less than 1%) appears as a clear colorless liquid with a strong odor of vinegar. Corrosive to metals and tissue. Used in industry to make other chemicals, as a food additive, and in petroleum production.
A great percent of the acetic acid produced is used as a raw material for vinyl acetate.
Another significant use is as a reaction promoter in terephthalic acid production.
Is also a raw material for cellulose acetate, acetate esters, acetic anhydride and chloroacetic acid.
